Chocolate Marmalade Mousse { For Diwali & Halloween}

by Balvinder. 29 Comments

I needed to re upload this post, and I’m glad I did, right before Diwali and Halloween. This year they fall on the same day. Two Important festivals with completely contrasting rituals. This chocolate marmalade mousse is not only a wonderful way to celebrate Diwali, but it’s also perfect for fueling trick-or-treaters before they head out on Halloween!

I’ve been making and serving this marmalade mousse at family gatherings, but I never managed to take good pictures until recently. A few days ago, when my husband’s nephew visited with a friend from Australia. I made this chocolate marmalade mousse, and they loved it! Thankfully, I found time to take some great photos and shoot a video, so I’m sharing this post again with updated pictures.

When I first made this chocolate marmalade mousse in 2012, it was because I noticed some orange marmalade nearing its expiration date. I needed a recipe to use it up, and during my research, I discovered a milk chocolate marmalade mousse recipe in the Globe and Mail (From Lucy Waverman’s kitchen). Since then, this mousse has become a regular in our house. The great thing about this recipe is that it’s outrageously simple but tastes out of this world.

This isn’t a traditional chocolate mousse, which is made with eggs and sometimes gelatin. Instead, this is a quick and easy variation featuring chocolate, chocolate milk, marmalade, and whipping cream to create a light and delicious mousse. The original recipe called for bittersweet chocolate; however, I have made this mousse with different types of chocolate, which always turns out so tasty! This time, I used half orange-flavored chocolate and half dark chocolate. I haven’t added any extra sweetener, and the only sweetness that comes from is the marmalade. Feel free to add a sweetener if you prefer a sweeter mousse.

I served it in little espresso shot cups and cute bowls, layering each with some extra whipped cream and a bit of marmalade to create a harmonious balance of flavors that is simply irresistible. Don’t forget to bookmark this recipe and share it on social media to spread the joy of this delightful treat!

Chocolate Marmalade Mousse

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup chocolate milk (at room temperature)
  • 8 oz chocolate, chopped ( dark or bittersweet, or a mix of both)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup favorite marmalade ( I used orange)
  • 1 cup extra whipped cream for topping

Instructions

  1. Combine chocolate milk with chocolate in a medium pot. Whisk over a pot of boiling water or straight on the stove until melted.
  2. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla. Let it cool.
  3. Whip cream until soft peaks form and fold into cooled chocolate mixture.
  4. Fill each espresso or any cup half full of mousse.
  5. Dollop in some marmalade. Add more chocolate mousse.
  6. Cover your mousse with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for at least 2 hour for a firmer texture.
  7. Before serving top the mousse with extra whipped cream and a bit of marmalade.

Notes

If you make this mousse in advance (1-4 days) then bring it out 2 hours before serving.

I too am not into desserts but like you said, a bite of choc after dining is great. This lovely choc mousse should do the same for my taste, as a light refreshing dessert but just a small quantity.

Mmmmm. This is so different than the French chocolate mousse (made with uncooked egg yolks – so good – so scary. Love the incorporation of orange into chocolate – match made in heaven.

I like your recipe with the orange marmalade, because usual I add cointreau to mine and every good choco mousse needs some slight hint of orange. thanks for sharing! =)
