Refreshing Papaya and Grapefruit Salad

by Balvinder. 10 Comments

I love fruit salad and it is one thing I often make at home all year round but they are particularly refreshing in summer. This fruit salad  is the variation of the papaya chaat that I grew up eating. It is sweet, spicy, salty all at the same time,  and a spoonful of it in your mouth is quite delectable.

I have used papaya and grapefruit in this refreshing fruit salad. They make the perfect pair. Like with any fruit salad recipe, the quantities are open to taste and desire, as are additions.

The fruit salad is quick and easy to make, the only tricky part is cutting the grapefruit into segments. It takes a few extra minutes to eliminate the bitter pith but it’s prettier to look and eat.  To add layers of flavor sprinkle some salt and red chili powder. The salt draws out the grape fruit juice allowing the salad to make its own dressing. Then add some fresh mint to give the fruit salad an herbal fragrance and finish.

This refreshing papaya and grapefruit salad can be enjoyed as an evening snack to fill in the gap between meals or as a side for backyard BBQs.

I have never been a big fan of grape fruit only because it’s too tart for my palate. But with papaya I see it balancing beautifully. The color is so pretty!

This would be perfect with a barbeque – I’m always looking for new salads to try. Roll on weekend (hope we get some sun 🙂 ).
